Teeth Whitening

Teeth become discoloured by age, tobacco use, certain medications and staining foods and drinks such as tea, coffee and red wine.  Simple brushing, even with special toothpastes, can fail to brighten a dull smile.  Tooth whitening can be a highly effective, yet very simple way of lightening the colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surfaces.  A bright smile boosts your confidence and makes you feel better about yourself.

The procedure is very simple and non-invasive.  After consultation, your dentist will take an impression of the teeth with a putty-like material in the surgery.  This is then sent to the dental laboratory that will make clear, bleaching trays that fit exactly over the natural teeth.  The whitening solution is placed into the bleaching trays and carried out by yourself, in your own home, at your convenience.  Adhering to the simple treatment instructions, promising results should be seen within 7-14 days, or until you achieve the desired results.

Whitening can only lighten your existing tooth colour and depends on the original shade of your teeth.  In order to sustain the lightening effect, booster courses can be used at a later date.  Whitening will not be effective on dentures, crowns or veneers.
