Crowns using Cerec
Crowns are an ideal way to rebuild teeth that have been broken or have been weakened by decay or a very large filling. The crown fills right over the remaining part of the tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape and contour of a natural tooth.
Your dentist may suggest a crown for a number of reasons:
-
Your tooth may have been weakened by having a very large filling
-
You may have a discoloured filling
-
You may have had a root filling which will need a crown to protect it
-
You may have had an accident and damaged the tooth
-
It may help to hold a bridge or denture firmly in place
As in the inlay we use the very latest in modern technology to offer the provision of crowns in a single visit. CEREC 3D uses CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) technology, incorporating a camera, computer and milling machine in one instrument. Your dentist will prepare the damaged tooth by painting a thin layer of reflective powder directly on the tooth’s surface. Using a special camera, the dentist then takes a picture of the tooth. There is no need to take a messy impression and send it to the laboratory (unless the traditional method is recommended). The dentist works from this photograph, which is actually a pin-sharp optical impression of the tooth.
